ABOUT ME

Peggy ter Haak, life coach Rotterdam and career coach

Woman, married to Steven Somsen, life coach, gardening, allotment, walking, camping, English & French language, bonus grandchildren.

I have worked as a coach for over 26 years, running my own practice since 2009. My work encompasses everything I love: authentic connections, shared learning and growth, movement and action.

My husband works as a men’s coach, volwassen-mannelijkheid.nl.
We also conduct joint explorations with couples, see volwassen-relatie.nl.

Fluent English

I have worked in international environments and undertaken a great deal of my professional training within an international group.
I am accustomed to speaking and exploring life & work in English.

About me

In my work as a life coach and career coach, everything I love comes together: genuine encounters with others, growth, creativity and independence.

I learned to take care of myself at a young age, which led me to become self-reliant and independent. It also led to a “successful” career in business, driven by external recognition and apparent invulnerability.

By realising that I was actually sidelining myself and suppressing my sensitivity, my life has completely changed. I since then live in connection with myself, which makes so many things possible.
My training at ITIP (Institute for Applied Psychology), School for Coaching and Psychology at the University of Amsterdam form the basis of my work. Even more so my life experience and desire to continue learning and growing as a person do so.

I have been working as a coach for more than 28 years, including over 17 years as a self-employed professional in my own coaching practice, Met hart en lef (With Heart and Courage). See LinkedIn for my background or email me with any questions peggy@methartenlef.nl.

What moves me

I am happiest when I am active, both literally and figuratively. I enjoy growing and I need it; taking steps, contributing my talents and developing further, wherever and with whomever.
My guiding principle is that everything is welcome and every experience can lead to growth. As long as I am open to it. And even if I am not open to it… learning happens.

Together with my husband Steven Somsen, I live and work in Rotterdam city centre in an old gym. My husband organises men’s groups  here. We also work together as relationship coaches via volwassen-relatie.nl.

We share the love of learning about life: what’s going on, what do we need to do?

I also love the French language, walking, and working in our allotment garden.

What characterises me? I am sensitive and empathetic with a sharp mind, a sense of humour and a light-hearted nature. I love action and adventure and can be stubborn. And, I’m also a jack of all trades.

life coach Rotterdam

I continue to be amazed by life. This helps me greatly to accept what is, and to continue learning and growing.

My other sources of inspiration are nature, the teachings of Théun Mares, my international group of true friends with whom I explore life, the silent retreats of Isaac Shapiro, and of course my husband, who is always curious about other people.

Head as a helper, not the leader

Deep down, we all know what we need to do:
what we need to change, what we need to let go of, and what we need to focus on.

But allowing ourselves to explore this,
trusting it and acting on it can be daunting.

That’s where I come in as a life coach in Rotterdam, helping you with heart and courage.
Together, we tap into your inner knowledge, using your head as a helper rather than the protagonist.

Lifelong learning

I am still learning every day.
It doesn’t always go smoothly, but that’s often the only way.
I have learned to embrace and use my sensitivity instead of resisting it.
To speak from desire instead of from my head.
I have learned to stand firm, which allows me to be vulnerable.
I am increasingly letting go of control and living from a place of trust.
